Even when it’s cold outside, there’s too much going on in the city of Chicago to stay indoors. Here are a few suggestions for fun things to do in Chicago this December, so be sure to bundle up and get out there for all the winter fun!
Winter WonderFest 2013 (Dec. 6- Jan. 12, 2014)
The 13th annual Winter WonderFest will once again be held at Navy Pier! This winter wonderland is a family-friendly indoor festival held in the Pier’s Crystal Gardens. It has indoor ice skating, a grand Christmas tree, cookie crafts, large inflatable slides, carnival rides, rock climbing, and more. Once you step inside this 170,000 sq. ft. winter playground, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a modern-day North Pole!
Joffrey Ballet’s The Nutcracker (Dec. 6-28, 2013)
The Joffrey Ballet is a professional dance company based here in Chicago. The company regularly performs classical ballets, including The Nutcracker. This particular version is spectacular, and is ranked America’s #1 Nutcracker! This beloved holiday masterpiece for the whole family features the entire Joffrey company plus local children’s choruses and young dancers. The show is complete with incredible scenery, magical storytelling and Tchaikovsky’s famous score performed live by The Chicago Philharmonic. It is sure to be an evening of pure enchantment.
Museum of Science and Industry’s Christmas Around the World (Nov.14, – Jan. 5, 2014)
This Chicago tradition began back in 1942 with a single tree dedicated to the Allies of World War II. It is has become a must-see holiday exhibition for tourists and locals alike. The Christmas from Around the World exhibit provides the opportunity for you and your family to learn how different ethnicities celebrate the holidays. There will be a 45-foot Christmas tree that takes center stage that has more than 30,000 lights and 1,000 ornaments.
Wicked the Musical (Oct.30, – Dec. 21, 2013)
Back by popular demand, Wicked the Musical has returned to Chicago! The Tony-winning musical has been enchanting theater goers since October already and will only be in Chicago for a few more weeks!
