The Captain’s Recommendation for Summer Festivals
Welcome to THE CAPTAIN’S BLOG. This is the place to go for The Captain’s tips on where to drop anchor and find the best things to do and places to go in Chicago!
The Captain knows everything there is to know about the summer festival season in Chicago and honestly even he admits that it can be a bit overwhelming. With hundreds of neighborhood festivals and parades taking place across the city, all showcasing Chicago’s amazing ethnic communities and neighborhood personalities, as well as beaches, pools, and outdoor drinking spots competing for your time, how can you ever decide the best way to spend your weekend?
Let the Captain be your guide!
His first choice for the month: Taste of River North from Friday, July 19 to Sunday July 21. Come out and experience the quickly expanding River North district with its upscale restaurants and bars, as well as world-class art galleries. And how could we fail to mention the live music?! Chicago’s own Lucky Boys Confusion, Sixteen Candles, and The Sheepdogs will be headlining the fest; we bet you’ll find the Captain at the front of the crowd rocking out.
Next on the Captain’s list is the 45th Annual Sheffield Garden Walk & Music Festival, Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. Join us for awesome music, great kids’ activities, food, food, and more food, and of course the beautiful gardens of Lincoln Park. Take a tour and bring back some ideas for your own home garden.
The Captain also loves Celebrate Clark Street, now in its eighth year up in Rogers Park. This fest also runs on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 and features world music and local bands, food, arts and crafts, and lots of activities for the kids. Over 25,000 people are expected so you know it’s going to be a good time.
Last on the Captain’s list is the Taste of Lincoln Avenue. This fest’s been around for 30 years, making it one of the city’s most iconic summer events. Head to the heart of Lincoln Park on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28 for music of all kinds and 250+ food vendors—that’s a lot of food and the Captain definitely approves!
