Historic Beach House
In 1934, funding from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal provided the resources to make the Montrose Beach a reality. This included a beach house designed by E.V. Buchsbaum, a portion of which is still in use today. In the 1950s a section of the beach house was destroyed in a fire. Although the Chicago Park District didn’t rebuild it, they put the space to good use by adding an open-air changing area.
