It’s easy to work up an appetite during one of Shoreline Sightseeing’s inspiring Chicago architecture tours.
When passengers aboard our exciting Chicago architectural boat cruise disembark for a taste of the mainland, many mouthwatering vegan options await them at some of Chicago’s finest restaurants.
Eat Happy at Amitabul
Whether you’re a diehard vegan or just appreciate fantastic cuisine, the food at Amitabul, located at 6207 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago, is meatless, eggless, dairy-free fare that will leave you salivating for more. Visitors will find a sumptuous lineup of soups, stews, dry pancakes, and some of the tastiest bibimbap you’ll find in Chicagoland.
Raw Pleasure at Chicago Raw
The food offerings at Raw (which stands for “raising awareness worldwide”) are made from uncooked, 100 percent plant-based ingredients.
This distinctive bistro can be found at the following Chicago locations:
- 131 N. Clinton St.
- 51 W. Huron St.
- 255 E. Grand Ave.
The Raw menu features drinks, smoothies, breads, salads, sandwiches, a heavenly host of sweets and desserts, and entrees that run the gamut from burritos and garden burgers to pizza and mock-pasta dishes. Drooling yet? This Chicago eatery proves healthy can also be delicious.
Beautiful Bites at B’Gabs
It doesn’t get any more vegan friendly than the animal-product-free, soy- and gluten-free, raw offerings at B’Gabs, located at 1450 E. 57th St.
From smoothies and cold-pressed juices to both raw and cooked entrees, veggie-filled sides, salads, and sweets, you won’t be gabbing much while you’re at B’Gabs – you’ll be too busy savoring every scrumptious bite.
A Blissful Break at Upton’s Breakroom
Upton’s Breakroom, located at 2054 W. Grand Ave., is connected to Upton’s Naturals, an independently owned natural food business dedicated to a meat alternative called seitan.
Seitan is made through a process of washing the starch from wheat flour, leaving wheat protein behind for a protein-rich product that is similar in texture to meat. The seitan at Upton’s is minimally processed but majorly delicious. The Breakroom’s menu is 100 percent vegan – but with entrée names like Fried Bacon Mac, Bacon Ranch Cheeseburger, and the “Chicago Style” Italian, you’ll think you’re in a guilty-pleasure deli rather than a cruelty-free vegan eatery.
Delicious Café – the Name Says It All
Vegan naysayers will be instantly silenced with a mouthful of the fabulous goodies at Delicious Café, located at 3827 N. Lincoln Ave. The pastries and desserts are to die for (except nothing did die for them because they’re totally vegan). One look at these beautiful treats and you won’t be thinking “vegan” – you’ll be thinking, “Gimme!”
Savor the rotating array of desserts, assortment of coffees and teas, and lineup of made-to-order breakfast and lunch sandwiches and you’ll know how “Delicious Café” got its name.
‘V’ Times Three
Enjoy a triple threat of vegan cuisine at the hands of Karyn Calabrese, owner and operator of Karyn’s Fresh Corner, Karyn’s Raw Bistro, and Karyn’s Cooked, all located at 1901 N. Halstead St.
Whether you’re looking for a healthy snack to take home, craving some cooked vegan comfort food, or wanting to keep it raw, you’ll find a delicious array of health-conscious choices at Karyn’s to satisfy that meat-free appetite.
