Chicago’s Best Beaches
For a fun, family-friendly summer adventure in the city, Chicago beaches are the perfect place to spend the day! Whether you’re looking to swim, soak up sun, or just enjoy a quiet afternoon with loved ones, Lake Michigan offers a gorgeous backdrop for it all. To find a beach that has what you’re looking for, refer to Shoreline Sightseeing’s guide to Chicago’s best beaches below!
Oak Street Beach
Between the breathtaking view of the Chicago skyline, shopping on Michigan Avenue, and numerous amenities, the Oak Street Beach is a sandy haven for locals and visitors alike. If you get hungry, the Streeterville neighborhood has a broad spectrum of dining options available. Both amateur and professional volleyball tournaments are hosted here, so whether you feel like playing or simply watching, these events make for a great time. However, we recommend walking to this beach, as parking can be a bit of a hassle. Oak Street Beach is located at 1000 N. Lake Shore Drive.
To give yourself and your pup some much-needed beach time, Montrose beach is for you. There is a dog-friendly play area so that you and your dog can get some sun, as well as a nature area for walks. The beach house offers concessions for hungry attendees, and there is a picnic area if you decide to pack your own food. Parking is easily accessible here also! Montrose Beach is situated at 4400 N. Lake Shore Drive.
North Avenue Beach
Appealing to both beachgoers and urban explorers alike, North Avenue Beach is a hub of activity in the summer. The Lincoln Park Zoo is mere blocks away, beachside dining is readily accessible, you can watch or participate in amateur sports at the open-air facility, or you may visit the Historic Boat House. If you have always wanted to wake board, kayak, or jet-ski on Lake Michigan, all of this equipment can be rented. North Avenue Beach can be found at 1603 N. Lake Shore Drive.
