The Blue Man Group Calls This Chicago Theater Home

Chicago is full of fabulous theater and performance art, and the Briar Street Theater is no exception. This century-old building offers a sumptuous venue for some of Chicago’s best theater and live performances. Shoreline Sightseeing brings you this part of the real Chicago experience!

The Briar Street Theater

Blue Man Group

The Briar Street Theater was built in 1901 as a stable for delivery horses for the Marshall Field Company. As the automobile slowly replaced the horse on the streets of Chicago, the stable fell into disuse. In 1970, it was purchased by Walter Topel to serve as an office and sound stage for his film production company. After Topel’s business moved downtown in 1985, the theater was revamped and opened as a performance space. Since then, it’s been a keystone part of the Chicago performing arts scene.

One of the most unique things about the Briar Street Theater is how deftly it’s designed to suit an audience. The theater layout allows for easy access and full wheelchair accessibility. Even better, every one of the 625 seats has a perfect view of the stage, something few other theaters can boast. When you come to the Briar Street Theater, you’ll always get the best seat in the house!

Blue Man Group

The Briar Street Theater is the home base of the Blue Man Group, a performance art experience that’s like nothing else you’ve ever seen. When you see a Blue Man Group show, you’ll enjoy a thought-provoking and exciting show that features unique live music, skits and dance, and plenty of audience participation! Sit in the “poncho zone” and get the full Blue Man experience, and you might even become part of the show.

The Blue Man Group has grown from a trio of college performing artists doing street theater into an anarchistic, colorful, and wild experience that entertains audiences all over the world.
