Valentine’s Day in Chicago

Valentine’s Day in Chicago

Valentine’s Day is a right around the corner which means now is the time to frantically make reservations at an overpriced restaurant where you don’t recognize anything on the menu. We’re just kidding – we know you planned months in advance for this special day, but in case you didn’t we’ve laid out some ideas on different ways to celebrate the day. Whether you’re celebrating with your friends, you’re nervous for your first date, or you and your significant other are pros at making plans, we’ve got some over the top ideas and some more simple plans for you to consider.

Galentine’s Day

Single, married, in a relationship, or just playing the field – it doesn’t matter when it’s Galentine’s Day! Today is all about love and what a better way to spread the love than with your closest group of gals.

Go Big: Round up the troops – we’re going to The Chopping Block! What a better way to bond than over cooking classes with a professional instructor. During this 3-hour cooking adventure you’ll have time for cocktails, appetizers, and enjoying the meal you and your gals just whipped up. Pricing can range from $90-160 per person and space is limited so be sure to book in advance.

Take it Easy: Your love of chick flicks is finally coming in handy – head over to Joe’s on Weed for their Wednesday night Trivia which is affectionately themed ROMCOMS! Teams of up to 6 people can go head to head on their knowledge of Romantic Comedies including Bridget Jones, Love Actually, Pretty Woman, The Notebook, and more. Prizes are available for 1st – 5th place and they have drink specials (can you say $5 Patron Shots!).

First Date

Are you finally making the first move after swiping right? Are your friends tired of you being the third wheel so they’ve decided to set you up? Did you work up the courage to ask out that cute girl in the cube down the hall? You asked, they said yes, so now what are you going to do?

Go Big: You’re dressed to impress and you’re not cutting any corners which is why you’ve decided on Maple & Ash for your cocktails and dinner. The menu has been crafted by a two-Michelin star and the wine program has been named one of ‘America’s Best’ so you know your date is going to have a fantastic meal. After the meal take a quick walk over to Luxbar for dessert and their Build Your Own Manhattan menu. Your date will definitely be impressed with your dining options once the night ends.

Take it Easy: Why make today any different, you want your date to know exactly what they’re signing up for and it’s definitely not 5-star restaurants every week. Instead, take the more realistic route with dinner at Slurping Turtle. It’s your favorite ramen spot and the perfect place to share a maki roll. Keep it real when it comes to dessert, walk over to Firecakes Donuts for Buttermilk Old Fashioned. Your date will appreciate you showing them the more down to earth side of you.

Valentine’s Veteran

This isn’t your first rodeo, you and your significant other have been together long enough that you have your own Valentine’s Day routine and you really don’t need any advice. But hey, we’ll give you our advice anyway.

Go Big: If you’re a veteran then you probably already know where you’re going. We recommend making reservations at a spot that has a special meaning to you and your s/o. It could be the same spot you go to every Valentine’s Day, the restaurant you went to on your first date, or just your favorite go-to neighborhood joint. Go somewhere that you both enjoy and brings back memories from the beginning of your relationship, only you two know what that is. But don’t forget the flowers, chocolate, and oversized stuffed animal before you head out for the night!

Take it Easy: We all know that your relationship doesn’t consist of overpriced restaurants and extravagant gifts so let’s keep it simple. Sometimes the best date night means making a meal together at home. Stop by the store on your way home from work and grab your favorite bottle of cheap wine and all the ingredients in your favorite meal so you can spend the night together. After dinner put on your favorite Netflix show for some binge watching and there you have it – a perfect night with your favorite person. But don’t forget to get flowers to add that something special!

Wherever your plans end up taking you we hope you have a perfect night with your gals, guys, or significant other.
